Mikee P looks at tonight Derby Points Race

Another KY Points Race this week as Remington Park hosts the 300k Springboard Mile. Post time is scheduled for 11:26 on Friday, December 13.

Here’s a H-H analysis from Mike Pribozie.

(1) Coal Battle 10/1 ML

Interesting horse here with two wins in four starts with two of those on the grass and two on off tracks. Broke maiden first out at EvD at 6.8-1 going 5F on a sloppy track. Connections felt they saw enough to go in the Juv Mile at KY Downs where he drew the twelve post but closed to be 4th against the racetrack at 88-1. Ran into Remsen winner Poster at Keeneland 10/12 when making no impression. Bounced back at Delta 11/8 in Listed Jean Lafitte Stakes while Green early dropping back, making a nice move on the turn then drifting in the stretch. Best races have come on lasix that he won’t have in this race (All Derby Points are no lasix). 75 Beyer in last plays well here, his class plays well also vs these.

(2) Blue Angel 15/1 ML

Asmussen trainee comes out of a first out maiden win at Remington while favored on a wet track. Beyer was quite low at 34 in the 6.5F race. Son of Gun Runner is out of a mare that won seven races and has produced stakes winner Kinetic Sky. Needs to improve but a fast track and experience could help for top connections.
