It was a successful opening day in Saratoga. And it didn’t take long for horseplayers to be blessed with a Pick 6 carryover.

Day 2 of 40 – Friday, July 15, 2022
WHAT’S HAPPENING
Day 2 offers up 10 more wagering puzzles after an upset in the 6th race on Thursday from Winter Son at 43-1 set up a Pick 6 carryover.
THE FEATURES
There are two stakes races on the Friday program, one of which is graded, the Forbidden Apple at a mile on the inner turf. The other stake is the Coronation Cup at 5.5 panels on the Mellon turf course.
WHO’S HOT?
Javier Castellano scored 3 wins on the opening day program and looked like the Hall of Famer that he is on a sterling afternoon. Among trainers, there were 10 different winners on the program with perennial meet leaders Chad Brown and Todd Pletcher both starting beaten favorites.
WHO’S NOT?
Trainer Mark Casse ran 3 horses in the Schuylerville and came up empty. He’s now 1 for his last 31 in graded stakes on the dirt with his last winner coming last summer at Del Mar.
BABY TALK
The opener is a NY-bred maiden race headed by #5 IM JUST KIDDIN, a firster by freshman sire Justify. The first crop of the 2018 Triple Crown winner now includes a graded stake winner with Just Cindy winning Thursday’s Schuylerville. This filly is kin to 2017 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint winner Bar of Gold, so there’s plenty to like. The other headliner in the opener is #6 CAMP AKEELA, whose trainer Tom Amoss hits at a 25% clip with 2YO firsters on the dirt over the last five years ($2.35 ROI).
PLAY OF THE DAY
Race 9 - #7 PUBLIC SECTOR – Last year’s Hill Prince winner is 0-2 so far as a 4YO but has legitimate excuses for each defeat. He was compromised by a slow pace last time out and wound up finishing with interest to round out the trifecta. There is a ton of speed signed on in the Forbidden Apple, and that will go a long way towards helping his chances. This is a rare opportunity to get a square price on Chad Brown and Irad Ortiz, Jr.
