Mixed emotions can only begin to describe the weekend ahead for the racing industry. Lots to look forward to with the Pennsylvania Derby highlighting some great racing across the country, however I know many racing fans (myself included) will be tuned in for Saturday’s closing day card at Arlington International Racecourse.
We’ve discussed this topic several times here on the network, especially during the lead-up to this year’s Mister D. Stakes card. There have been many highs and lows throughout the storied history of this majestic venue, although the lows have seemed to outweigh the highs in recent memory. In a world of mega purses including the Pegasus World Cup and Breeders’ Cups, don’t forget about the first official seven figure trip around the track, the 1981 Arlington Million. Whether it was The Bart and John Henry, the Miracle Million or a Breeders’ Cup betting scandal that rocked the racing world, we thank Arlington for all of the great memories. I know many people who have called Arlington home and I know this weekend will be bittersweet to say the least.
