Players' Newsletter - February 18th, 2023
Derby preps continue this week, with all the focus on Fair Grounds tomorrow. Nick Tammaro and Dean Keppler have you covered on the Risen Star Stakes, and more, on today’s Players’ Podcast. We also have more in-depth Fair Grounds coverage on the ITM Plus side with Frank McGoey. Backtracking to earlier in the week, Nick Tammaro once again joined me to analyze the three year old crop and talk Kentucky Derby Future Wager.
Earlier this week we launched the Pro Player Diary, a series with Sean Boarman that will focus on his plays and approach to gambling. Sean’s insight is always enlightening when he stops by the ITM airwaves, so I would highly recommend following along with this series.
Finally, Tyler Whisman joined me again to talk about Thoropace.com and provided some spot plays for February 18th that standout on the product. You’ll have until the end of February to get involved for FREE, so make sure to head to inthemoneypodcast.com/thoropace for more.
MYWAYP,

Players’ Podcast - The Curious Phenomenon of Fillies Against Colts
PTF and Nick Tammaro are here to look back at a weekend of racing, including Kentucky Derby future pool action. Plus a lively discussion about certain fans/trainers near obsession with running fillies against colts early in their three-year-old years. Horses discussed include Litigate, Dubyuhnell, Chase the Chaos, Gold Magic, Arthur’s Ride, Dreamlike, Hit Show, Hoosier Philly, Wonder Wheel, Dreaming of Snow, and many many more.
Pro Player Diary - Maiden Voyage
Sean Boarman joins PTF to talk about his horseplaying journey, his decision to ply his trade in Hong Kong, some recent close calls, and a brilliant analogy about this year’s Super Bowl and Ric Flair. Woo.
The idea of this new series of shows will be to follow along with Sean’s bets in Hong Kong and domestically to gain insight into his approach and methods and also (hopefully) be therapeutic and helpful for him.
JK + 1 - Laffit Pincay III and Richie
JK is taking a different approach in this week’s episode to address a serious situation: the mental health of those working in the racing industry, specifically jockeys.
JK is joined by his Fox colleagues Laffit Pincay, III, and Richard Migliore as they dive deep in to the physical and mental challenges riders face. They also discuss how social media and addiction can make matters worse, and how therapy can make things better. This episode is essentially three guys talking about mental health in the hopes that someone who needs help hears it and can reach out. And to let others know about the challenges other people fave that they might not have otherwise thought about.
The Matt Bernier Show - Ep. 149 | February 16, 2023
On this week’s show, Matt looks ahead to Saturday’s key Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby preps taking place at the Fair Grounds – the Rachel Alexandra (featuring Hoosier Philly) and the Risen Star.

Spencer and Nick go over three races from this past Saturday at Gulfstream Park (races 5-10-12). Some angles we talk about is how to handicap Layoff form and how to stay out of long winless ruts finding the solid favorites can keep your bankroll afloat.
