It was supposed to be Travers weekend. . .never did I think that on the final Saturday of August not only would we not be preparing for our 10th annual party atop the Veranda but that we’d be in full-on prep mode for this year’s Kentucky Derby. If you’d told me a year ago this is where we’d be I’d have asked if I might have some of whatever it was you were on.
But this is where we are and it’s OK. I’ve heard a lot of people suggest they can’t quite get as excited for this year’s Derby but I do not agree at all. I’m relieved there are no fans and excited to see what Tiz the Law does next. And I don’t necessarily think the race is as simple as just him: I make him 50 percent or a little more to win the race and that leaves a big possibility that there are interesting alternatives. And even if not, there are bets called the exacta, trifecta, superfecta, and Super High 5. As far as potential upsetters, and horses to run in underneath, I suggest you check out our MONSTER POD this weekend. You’ve heard of JK + 1? Well, this is PTF +21.
