Introduction to ThoroPACE
So what is ThoroPACE?
Launched in 2022, ThoroPACE has developed more than 100 statistical models to identify handicapping approaches producing above- and below-average returns on investment.
These models are based on more than 1.2 million running lines from North American thoroughbred races run between 2018 and 2021. All models are surface and distance specific.
The ThoroPACE Forecast provides an objective look at the predicted pace of a race based on the past performances of entrants. The Forecast is presented on a 70-point scale from -35 (best for speed) to +35 (best for stretch runners). For each race, we also forecast the runners(s) most likely to get the early lead. This provides an objective starting point for handicapping a race.
The ThoroPACE Spotlight Plays Report provides multiple benefits. We identify horses that have both favorable and unfavorable pace dynamics relative to their past performances and style of racing. We have dozens of ThoroPACE Positive Predictive Factors and Negative Predictive Factors. This helps our users quickly identify overlays and underlays.
Our ThoroPACE products are updated to reflect scratches as they become available (typically an update of our products occurs around 11AM, 3PM and 6PM ET each day)
***This is critically important as the Pace Forecast can change considerably following scratches

Pace Forecast: +12.1
Most Likely Leader: #2
The pace should set up for a stretch runner, and Motion’s #1 Chulainn fits the bill.
Laurel Park Race 1:
Pace Forecast: +27.6
Most Likely Leader #2
The anticipated hot pace should benefit #10 Dr. Ferber and #14 Mint Game.
Woodbine Race 7:
Pace Forecast: +2.7
Most Likely Leader #10
#1 Magic Ride overcame a speed-favoring pace to break maiden and should get moderate fractions today
Keeneland Race 4:
Pace Forecast: -7.1
Most Likely Leader: #6
#6 Park Avenue appears to be the controlling speed this race. We’ll use #1 Pass the Plate underneath, as she was up against a speed-favoring G3 event.
Keeneland Race 4:
Pace Forecast: +1.0
Most Likely Leader: #4
#7 Of a Revolution rallied in a slow-paced G2 last time and should get a fair pace today.
Keeneland Race 7:
Pace Forecast: +25.9
Most Likely Leader: #14
We’re forecasting a pretty quick pace, and longshot #5 Solid Tune closed into moderate fractions in her last. #11 Thunder Love closed to win last despite speed favoring pace and looks tough in here. Check back after scratches, because if neither the #14 nor #15 get in, the pace will be more moderate.

Pace Forecast: +35.0
Most Likely Leader: #6
The anticipated hot pace should benefit #4 Tiz Rye Time in here.
