A big Thank You to Eric Solomon for his work on the Super High 5 Carryover at CD today!
Happy Thanksgiving to all the ITM subscribers! I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday celebrating with family, friends, and great food! There’s some great racing across the country as we kick off the long holiday weekend. A pair of longshots lighting up the toteboard in the Wednesday nightcap, triggered a $42,774 carryover in the Super High 5 for Thanksgiving day at Churchill Downs. Horsplayers will have another shot on Thursday in the 12th race, scheduled to go off at 4:50 Eastern Time. The nightcap is a wide-open $10K starter allowance going the one-turn mile distance on the main track. There are nine horses entered, and I’ll share my thoughts on each one, along with how I’d play this wager.
Tiz Light The Way: He’s going to take some money in this race, after decimating a beaten claiming field by 20+ lengths two starts ago, and running a credible fourth at this level last out. His romp came in the slop and rain is in the forecast this afternoon. He comes from strong connections, trained by Chris Hartman and ridden by Rafael Bejarano. Despite having a lot of positives, I’m going to pass on him, as I think he’s a much better horse at two turns. I think others are faster in the early stages, and I don’t love the rail draw for him in this spot.
Fade Away: He’s the longest shot on the board and he’s a tough sell for me. He’s definitely better on the grass, never running a race remotely fast enough on dirt to beat these. Glyshaw claimed him in August and has kept him protected in his last two starts. I tend to think that he’s entered in this spot strictly to get a race in for a fitness standpoint.
Exulting: The morning line favorite is four races removed from finishing second in an $85K stakes race at Indiana Grand. He was in great form this summer for Mike Maker, who claimed him for a mere $7,500 back in March at Oaklawn. He was a bit dull at this level last out when going two turns. He’s been very good in races at this one turn mile on the main track throughout his career. Leading rider, Tyler Gaffalione gets the mount on this one, who will be on the front end of my tickets.
