ITM Plus - Cross-Country Pick 5 Analysis, February 5th, 2022 - By Michael Domabyl
As a special offering for the In the Money Plus subscribers this week, Michael Domabyl is providing detailed analysis of the cross-country pick five that spans races from Aqueduct to Tampa Bay Downs while also building some wagers to help players with their ticket construction.
Leg A: Tampa Bay Downs Race 4 - Allowance N1X 29k Purse (1:42PM EST)
This cross-country pick five sequence kicks off with the return of Soft Power (FR) (#7) for the potent team of Chad Brown and Klaravich Stables. We last saw this runner in his debut getting a beautiful ride from Flavien Prat while putting forth an eye-catching run through the lane to get up by a nose on the Belmont Stakes undercard. While the pace was on the quick side, he proved to be the only runner in that field making up much ground on the front runners and did so despite being slow into stride in the early stages. While it certainly wasn’t the plan to have this promising colt sidelined since last June, Chad Brown’s barn does well with these runners returning off long layoffs scoring with 4 of 9 runners coming off 180+ day layoffs on the turf at Tampa Bay Downs. Although it’s a step up in class, I feel comfortable singling him to kick off the sequence in part because of the field he’ll be facing. Gate Crew (#1) is the second choice on the morning line and is also stepping up in class off a win versus starter allowance foes and after 16 starts has significantly less upside than the favorite. Maybe some bettors will try Perfect Silent Cat (#5) off some dirtied up form since his last turf race was a stakes-placing at Indiana Grand. However, he was with the flow of the race that day and I’d need a bigger price to take these low-percentage connections. This cross-country pick five ticket will live and die with Soft Power.
