Last week was a fun week on the In the Money Horseplayers Tour for the ITM extended family.
The overall winner was Robert Weir, husband of Kim, who of course is the First Lady of the ITM Players’ Podcast. Bob is a sharp player and shrewd figure maker, a member of the Beyer Speed Figure team and all-around excellent guy. Great to see his name atop one of our games and congrats to him on winning entry into our playoffs.
Second-place went to Matt Miller, regular guest and author of A Bettor Way of Thinking. Matt’s approach: he played all the darn twos. Believe it or not, there is a method to this madness, and this marks the second qualification to the playoffs for Matt. I love him, but I do once in a while shake my head that some of his methods, sound though they may be, make a mockery out of everything most horseplayers are trying to do.
Sean O’Malley was third, a contest vet, and fourth went to John Camardo. John is a friend of the network, instrumental in the special proprietary figures we released for the Derby on the Plus side. He is also notable for a JK impression he did on a pod five years ago that still makes me laugh when I think about it.
If you are new to the Tour, fear not. You are at no disadvantage. The great news is that the new way the Tour is structured, latecomers to the party haven’t missed a thing – there’s still plenty of time to win your $10,000 Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge seat for as little as $20.
A brief refresher: ITM Horseplayers Tour games are every Friday and only $20 to play. The house cut goes to thoroughbred aftercare (namely Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and Therapeutic Horses of Saratoga).
That Friday entry (you can buy up to three each week) gets you into a regular horseplayers.com feeder for a Saturday $189 qualifier. The top four finishers in the Friday games will automatically advance to our playoffs.
The playoffs will begin October 3 and we will once again have a series of cut lines to winnow down to a final table of 10 players. The overall winner gets a $10,000 BCBC seat at no additional cost.
Get involved today! More contest information is available below.
And of course, we here at ITM have plenty of content focused on these contest races to hopefully help in your endeavor to win that BCBC seat!
JK and I tackle the Del Mar Opening Day Pick 6 over on Youtube. You can also listen to a bonus segment with Andrew Brown over on the audio side.
We have a new contributor to ITM and I am excited to hear what he has to say. Adam Discepolo provides analysis of ALL the contest races over on the website.
Also, be sure to catch the newest episode of John Gaspar’s interview series. This week he talked to contest veteran Greg Lewis about one of his recent performances and his strategies for contests.
For this week’s ITM Horseplayers Tour contest, we also have additional handicapping resources for you by Nick Tammaro for Saratoga, Eric Solomon for Monmouth Park and Dean Keppler for Del Mar. We also have additional content for Saratoga and Del Mar all meet long available on the ITM Plus side, which is just a subscription away!
And don’t think that this is replacing the regular weekly Players’ Newsletter. That will still arrive to your inboxes weekly as we have done for years now.
