Grand Circuit season is almost upon us. We’ve almost made it through the slog that is the winter months. Everything starts to ramp up In just two weeks, and the business of stakes season will carry us from then to November. Buckle up. A total of 33 mares will compete in leg one of the Blue Chip Matchmaker Series (March 28), with 42 older male pacers competing in leg one the MGM Borgata Pacing Series just a few days later (March 31). Both drew a dozen more horses than last year, meaning fuller fields and more competitive racing. Both finals will take place on Friday, May 9, with added money to the finals, making them even more enticing. We obviously know about the dynamics of Yonkers and this series. How some horses continuously have rotten luck when it comes to post draws, how some horses may be saving for down the road, etc. It should be a great start to what is a 7+ month blitz of the top horses in the sport racing.
It was also announced earlier this week that Chantilly is nominated for the North America Cup. Seeing a horse like her have connections that are confident enough to try and race her against the boys just says how good of a horse Chantilly is. She was a joy to watch at two, and I hope she comes back even stronger at three. Could she be the Thorpedo Anna of harness racing?
Looking forward to Hoosier’s season which kicks off tonight. Always something going on in this sport. It keeps us busy in the best way.
Looking at having Gabe Prewitt next week for the Harness Players Podcast to discuss some of the changes for the new season -MP

Spot plays for the weekend of 3/14-3/15 presented by nahupicks.com
Friday Fraser Downs Race 4 (6) Shots Fired 7/2 ML - Owner/trainer/driver Rod Therres will look for immediate returns off his claim and that is usually what happens when Therres claims one. Comes off big mile with Scrannage driving.
~Murray Slough
Friday Woodbine Mohawk Race 11 (6) Superior Delight - Louis Roy starts from the magical post 6. Was 8/1 against the 5 last start. Left from post 7, dropped in 4th, never given a fair opportunity. Closed to finish 3rd. Money will appear and so should the effort to win.
~Brad A.
Friday Woodbine Mohawk Race 9 (9) Charmbo Stormy - even with post nine LPR likely gets to the top easily. Best speed and closing 1/4.
~Doug Henwood
Friday Meadowlands Race 13 in a rare 5 furlong event - It appears that Boyd and Miller may lock horns early with (2) Gaius Cristina’s and (4) Sargeant Sonny. Should give Bradley Chisholm a good setup, as he can sit just off those with (5) I’m a Director N (6/1) and pounce late.
~Josh Potts
Friday Western Fair Race 5 (1) Inukshuk Sally - a broken hopple had her off stride before the start and then refunded last week. Looking for a BIG bounce back performance in this end leg of the PICK 5 - it’s also a non-jackpot HI5 race. Let’s go!
~Sugar Doyle
Saturday Woodbine Mohawk Race 11 (2) Settheworldonfire comes out of his second strong first-over effort in a row, and he likely would have won last week if the pocket sitter didn’t beat him to the punch on the final turn, vacating the two-hole for clear sailing before this gelding could get him trapped in.
~Garnet Barnsdale
Saturday Meadowlands Race 6 (9) Write Me a Rose gets a drop in class for his third start of 2025. Doesn’t have to face the buzzsaws he has been, and post should help his price. Could be the speed of the speed.
