As part of our ITM Plus Breeders’ Cup content we are excited to provide trip notes for all 14 Breeders’ Cup races!
These pages will be updated as horses defect and also-eligibles draw in to races over the next week, so be sure to check in with these pages regularly for up-to-date coverage.
A big thank you to Justin Christein for putting these together, as well as Will Humphrey and Mike Pribozie for filling in where needed!
Turf
Far Bridge: Turf Classic G1 (1st) 9/28/24
up withing 2L of the leaders heading to the first of three turns then had to be dragged back to avoid being 3W; settled along the rail and in 4th; maintained his rail position down the backside and as they approached the far turn he got caught in a tight spot inside while the leader was tiring, and suffered a significant shuffled back to last, costing him position and forward momentum; rallied 2W around the far turn then dove to the rail in the stretch and outgamed "Goddess" to the wire; only had to beat 4 horses but the trouble was not insignificant; another good effort.
Grand Sonata: KD Turf Cup (1st) 9/7/24
found a spot 2W early and in 6th as the field spread out in the first 1/4 mile; rode got to the rail and rode the inside all the way around the bend, stayed there for the stretch drive and prevailed gamely by a measured neck. clear trip saving ground.
Gold Phoenix: John Henry Turf G2 (5th) 9/28/24
raced 4w down the hill and 3W around the first turn while on a big hold behind a dawdling pace; found a spot 2W around the far turn and in 5th, tried to close the gap in the stretch to no avail; no chance trip here with the extremely slow pace; true merry-go-round race with barely any change in running position throughout.
